A powerful amd joyous recap of our epic 2025 World Ocean Celebration in its expanded 9-day festival.
From May 30 to June 8, 2025, Miami’s World Ocean Celebration (WOC), hosted by ARTSail and Blue Scholars Initiative, commemorated its 5th anniversary with an expanded 9-day event series marking it one of the largest community-focused ocean awareness initiatives in Miami’s. Through the support of over 35+ local partner organizations, WOC mobilized city-wide ocean action through art, music, education, and advocacy across iconic Miami locations. By strengthening ocean literacy and public engagement, WOC positions Miami as a global hub for ocean conservation and awareness.
We greatly expanded our marketing efforts, including advertising on the floating barge promoting the festival through Biscayne Bay and South Beach.
Youth Art Reception at Overtown Youth Center - May 30
We kicked off the event by honoring the next generation of ocean stewards. Young artists from Overtown Youth Center, The Motivational Edge and Breakthrough Miami, led by Miami-based artist Lauren Shapiro, shared powerful visual expressions of their connection to water, reminding us that creativity is a force for advocacy and change.
Guided Snorkel Expedition at the South Beach Near Shore Reef - June 1
85 Community members of all ages had the chance to experience the magic beneath the surface during a guided snorkel led by local marine experts. For many, it was a first encounter with the vibrant ecosystems just off our coast.
Boca Chita Debris Cleanup - June 2
37 Volunteers journeyed to Boca Chita Key for a hands-on marine debris cleanup, removing hundreds of pounds of plastic and waste from fragile island habitats. A true show of teamwork and environmental commitment!
Ocean Music Concert with Donavon Frankenreiter and Tad & Piper - June 4
Under the stars at the iconic Miami Beach Bandshell, legendary surfer and musician Donavon Frankenreiter brought 700+ ocean-lovers together through song and surf spirit. The night was a soulful celebration of music and marine mindfulness.
Ocean Story Slam at the Miami Beach Public Library - June 5
Real people, real stories. This intimate evening showcased true tales of transformation, awe, and adventure on—and under—the sea. Community voices took center stage, inspiring us to reflect on our personal ocean connections.
Sheroes of the Ocean Panel at 1 Hotel South Beach - June 6
125 guests celebrated some of the most inspiring women in ocean advocacy brought together to share stories of courage, science, and leadership. This panel highlighted the vital role women play in safeguarding our blue planet.
Beach Activation at 35th Street - South Beach - June 7
Art, science, and community came together for a vibrant morning of beachside activities, including interactive installations, water sports, educational booths, and collaborative art-making. It was a joyful, hands-on way for 400+ ocean and beach lovers to learn and take action.
Ocean Flags inspired by maritime signal code and participatory sand drawings conceived by 2025 World Ocean Celebration artist Lauren Shapiro.

International Ocean Film Festival at Rosenstiel School Auditorium -

We closed the week with powerful storytelling on the big screen. The curated film showcase was followed by a conversation with pioneering entrepreneur and Ocaquatics’ Founder, Miren Oca, shaping the future of ocean advocacy and equity in water for families across South Florida and beyond.
